Nashville Landscaping for the Winter

Winter is almost here and many people want to know how to keep their landscapes beautiful and private over the winter season.

There are many indigenous trees to Tennessee that will keep your landscape welcoming during the cold including the Arizona Cypress which can grow over 80 feet and has foliage colors from gray-green to blue-green. Another winter-friendly tree is a Witch Hazel tree that blooms yellow and orange flowers beginning in late fall and generally continuing throughout the winter.

If flowers are more your thing, try hellbore roses (also called Christmas or Lenten roses) that bloom all winter into early spring. Crocuses are another winter flower that begin flowering in autumn and continue through the spring. Finally, pansies come in many colors and will bloom all year; but if there is an extended freeze, be sure to cover them with a heavy winter mulch for protection.
