Recycling Program Turns Christmas Trees into Mulch

The holiday season is over and things are steadily going back to normal here in Nashville. School is back in session, people are back home after visiting their families and New Year’s resolutions are out in full force. But did you know as you tear down the holiday decorations and the Christmas trees there is actually a place in town that will recycle the tree for you? The Trees to Trails collection program gathers Nashvillian’s Christmas trees and turns them into mulch for the Radnor Lake State Natural Area.

This is the first year the program has utilized Christmas trees as a source, but it’s a no-brainer with all of the Christmas trees people toss out during this time of year. The trees collected will be chipped and turned into mulch covering three miles of trails in the park. The trails are mulched and maintained all year long, and the Christmas tree donations (primarily from Oak Hill and Forest Hills neighborhoods) will be a great asset to the program.

Radnor Lake will be accepting tree donations through January 31 and can be dropped off on the west-side parking lot until 5 p.m. every day. Be sure your tree has all tinsel, lights and ornaments removed from the tree for safety purposes before donating.

This program along with the Parke Company’s landscape services for both residential and commercial properties is a powerful combination. Parke can mulch your property’s landscape and even use the old leaves and limbs from the fall so your landscape is also mulched with recycled products.
