National Recycles Day 2021 Spotlight: Parke Company Tree and Landscape at Radnor Lake

The Parke Company team recently donated our time and resources to our friends at Radnor Lake for National Recycle Day. We decided to take action because we wanted to help our local community and a cause that we believe in—what better time to do so than to jump in during National Recycle Day.

Though there are many ways businesses and people alike can contribute to a better community, we decided our contribution would be to cover the trails with mulch from recycled tree chips. This gave us the opportunity to reuse trees that had already been cut down. Even better, it allowed us to refrain from cutting down more trees to make this mulch.

On November 15, 2021, we brought in a large pickup truck full of mulch and got to work! Our volunteers used wheelbarrows to spread the mulch throughout the trails, making sure that it created a beautiful, more eco-friendly space without hindering the natural ecosystems or suffocating trees.

Mulch has many benefits, especially in the fall. It provides insulation going into the colder months, allowing small ecosystems and organisms that make a huge difference to thrive and become stronger for spring. Mulching can also prevent erosion, which can damage our parks and our trails during rainy Tennessee autumns. Mulch adds an extra layer of protection against moisture loss in plants and trees and suppresses weeds from growing in abundance. Adding mulch from recycled trees is a beautiful way to give back to an ecosystem that has already given so much by not hurting it further.

It ended up being a successful and fulfilling day for all involved. The Parke Company was able to give back to a community that has served us so well for years. For images of our process or more information from our friends at Radnor Lake, follow this link.
